RIP George Michael

Hello and Hi. Happy Crimbo!* Crimbo? I will get to that later. But now, today, at this very moment- it is all about George Michael. Our George. Our glorious and gregarious George Michael, who passed away yesterday on Christmas Day of heart failure, according to his manager, Michael Lippman.

George Michael came to our attention when he was just 17 years old when he wrote and produced Careless Whisper, with his Wham! bandmate, Andrew Ridgeley. Ridgeley said he was “heartbroken at the loss of my beloved friend.” Tributes from around the world were also expressed by those in the music industry, world leaders, regular people and a certain American blogger.

George Michael, aged 53 had a pretty colourful life which was accented and defined by his sexuality, drug and alcohol abuse, a near fatal illness 5 years ago and of course, his infamous arrest for lewd behaviour in a public bathroom in Los Angeles. Oh dear. All that is long forgotten now, thank goodness. Well, mostly.

If you do anything today, please read his obituary here as seen on the BBC: Obituary: George Michael.

And now, some pics of our George…

He grew up near me. His mum was friends with my best friend’s Mum and back in the 80s she rang my friend’s Mum to say “George’s band are going to be on Top Of The Pops, does your daughter (my friend’s big sister) want to watch it live?” She wasn’t allowed to go as she was only 15 or so but still he was a local celeb. RIP George. Listening to him now 💔
