Hello and hi. Trust you know who Gina Miller is? No? Allow me. You are welcome. Gina Miller challenged BREXIT and won. Gina Miller is probably one of the most despised person in the UK (apart from ‘The Special One’). Miller is a British investment manager who co-founded SCM (Spencer Churchill Miller) in 2014. She is also a philanthropist for the True and Fair Campaign and is widely known for initiating the 2016 R (Miller) v Secretary for State for Exiting the European Union court case against the British government over its authority to implement BREXIT without approval from the House of Commons. Yes, that Gina Miller…and not the  Gina Miller sports reporter from the US-who shares the same name, and sadly got a lot of abuse on Twitter (as the Miller pictured above is currently receiving for sticking up for a cause she believes in).

Miller was born in Guyana (formerly British Guiana) and moved to England when she was only 10 years old. She is the daughter of Doodnauth Singh, a former attorney general of Guyana. Miller attended the girls boarding school- Roedean, from which she ran away to escape bullying. Miller gained a first degree in marketing, and an MSc in human resources management at the University of London. She clearly is a clever clogs (smart) and is no dummy. Her other achievements include the following:

  • In 1987 Miller owned a property photographic laboratory in 1987-before becoming marketing and event manager at BMW Fleet Division in 1990.
  • Two years later ,she started a marketing company and launched the Senate investment conference programme in 1996.
  • In 2006, Miller became a marketing consultant.
  • In 2009 Miller co-founded the investment firm SCM Private with her husband Alan Miller.

Miller has been a leading campaigner against hidden hedge fund charges and what she describes as “flagrant mis-selling within the asset management market.” Hmm. Brave woman. Better her than me. Yup.

  • In 2009, Miller set up Miller Philanthropy
  • In 2014 Miller established MoneyShe.com

Miller has been married 3 times and has 3 children. Her current husband (known as ‘Mr. Hedge Fund’) is clearly difficult to live with, as he too, has been married several times as well. Just sayin.’ Yup. In fact, Mr Miller previously took a divorce case of his to the House of Lords. He lost of course. Am not sure why his case even made it to the House of Lords and did not stay in its proper place in the Family Law courts. His barrister famously argued that it would have been cheaper for him to run over his wife rather than pay her the £5million settlement. Uggh. Can you believe he said that? And these people are my tribe. Good grief.

So, to recap: Gina Miller is Guyanese. Some of the best people I know are Guyanese. Yes, yes indeed. That being said, Miller is best known for challenging the recent BREXIT decision in the High Court. She actually won and the case will be heard on appeal by the UK  Supreme Court. Miller is also a former model and is often described as ‘feisty’ and a ‘natural fighter.’ Well, she is Guyanese. Yes, yes she is.

Miller felt that the only Parliament can make the decision to trigger Article 50…not our PM Theresa May on her own. Miller argued that the Prime Minister unlawfully and intentionally by-passed parliamentary scrutiny in taking the decision to BREXIT and trigger Article 50 in March. Now, Theresa May’s timetable for March is in a mess and somewhere in Downing Street, Theresa May is screaming into a paper bag out of sheer frustration. Don’t think she’ll be sending Miller a Christmas card this year or next year…or ever. May’s role as PM was going fine until Gina Miller came along. Yes, indeed. That is all.

Cheers

Challenging POWER is necessary to maintain BALANCE. Surprisingly, most people view “challenge” in a negative light.

Very true Dr. Jonathan! (Both statements)
