The Happiest Place in England

Because I’m happy
Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof
Because I’m happy
Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth
Because I’m happy
Clap along if you know what happiness is to you
Because I’m happy
Clap along if you feel like that’s what you wanna do

I hope you know the lyrics to this song. If you do, that makes me happy. If not, I shall still be happy. There are happy people everywhere, even in Britain. Yes. Data collected over 3 years has been used to measure the wellbeing of more than 300K people across the UK. According to the study, n average, people rated their happiness between 7 and 8 out of 10. But the largest percentage of people rating themselves at 9 or 10 was in Mid Sussex (39.3%). Some real happy people living in Mid Sussex.

Across the UK as a whole people in the Scottish Highlands came out happiest, with 43% saying they were a nine or a 10 on the day they were asked. Wait. What? Have you been to the Scottish Highlands? Oh sure, it is breathtakingly beautiful but it is pretty freezing up there. But you can be freezing and happy, although I personally have not experienced that. But I have heard rumblings.

Here is the happiness map. Knowledge is power people.

It is interesting to note that despite its low happiness rating, Wolverhampton has emerged as the place where people feel the LEAST anxious, with a 58.5% rating themselves ZERO or 1 out of 10 for anxiety. Really? They don’t have bills or debt in Wolverhampton? Wolverhampton is where exactly? Let me direct you to Google. Google is your friend.  Anyway, according to the BBC: “Wolverhampton and Black Country folk are, by nature, hard-working and self-deprecating – that’s why in this area we are famous for our sense of humour – and this research shows that while we may sometimes be a little bit grumpy, we don’t worry and get on with life.” BTW Black country folk describes an area of the West Midlands in England, north and west of Birmingham.

Life Satisfaction

Cornwall has the most people in England who are satisfied with their lives. Asked to rate their overall life satisfaction out of 10, one third (33.3%) gave themselves a 9 or 10.  Also, people in Cornwall scored the highest in England for how ‘worthwhile’ people considered their lives. But it was 6th overall in the UK, behind the Scottish Highlands, Anglesey in Wales, the Scottish Borders, Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon in Northern Ireland and Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland. If you don’t know where ANY of these places are I suggest you find out. Knowledge is power.

Check this, this is just a study-not a scientific fact. You can be happy anywhere. Happiness as they say, is an inside job. So be happy. Just do it.
