Adele

Adele. If you don’t know who Adele is then we can’t be friends. I kid. But I would question if we should fraternise or not. So, Adele is pretty much THE star at the moment. Having recently dropped a new album, she is storming the charts with ‘Hello.’ But of course we al knew her latest album would be the ‘bomb’ because Adele is a BOSS.

Adele Laurie Blue Adkins was born on 5 May 1988. She is practically a baby. So young, so beautiful, so talented and the list goes on and on. Adele’s debut album 19 was released in 2008 to commercial and critical success. Her second studio album was released in 2011 and was titled 21.  This album surpassed her debut album earning her loads of awards, including SIX Grammy Awards among other prestigious awards.

Early Life

Born in London, the daughter of an English mother and a Welsh Father. Her parents split up when she was 2 years old, leaving her 20 year old mother to raise her.  Adele began singing at age 4 and asserts that she became obesessed with voices. Growing up, Adele spent most of her time singing rather than reading.

Musical Style

Adele’s first album is of the soul genre, the lyrics are pretty heavy on heartbreak and relationships. Her success occured around the same time as other British female soul singers-in fact the British press dubbed her the new Any Winehouse.

Adele has  contralto vocal range. If you don’t know what this means, may I introduce you to Google? Google is your friend. Rolling Stone reported that following throat surgery, Adele’s voice post-surgery had become “palpabley bigger and purer-toned” and that she had added a further FOUR ntoes to the top of her range. Like wow. Initially, critics said that Adele’s vocals were far better than her songwriting abilities. Adele is not a pizza-she can not make everyone happy.  She is still amazing in my opinion. Anyway, Adele agreed with her critics and added, “I taught myself how to sing by listening to Ella Fitzgerald for acrobatics and scales, Etta Janes for passion and Roberta Flack for control. And boy, you can tell.

Just a regular girl-woman-female

Adele is a just a regular girl/woman/female. She is just like you and me. She has likes, dislikes, hopes, dreams and enjoys the simple things in life like taking her son to the park. I could wax lyrical about Adele forever-you can probably tell. I like her a lot. I like the way she is unashamedly herself, uses self-deprecating humour and laughs with her mouth wide open, showing ALL her teeth. I am SO Adele. But really, there is only ONE Adele.

Check out the link at the end of this post with Adele and James Corden as they Carpool Karaoke in London Town. It is HA-Larious. FYI it is 14 minutes long but let me tell you this, it will be the BEST 14 minutes of your day. Enjoy.
